CD Release

"…The mexican guitarist Santiago Lascurain brings a number of these absolute masterpieces out on this cd. Certainly a bold act, since the works are available on many recordings. Still, (he) knows how to make an extraordinarily valuable CD with them. He is able, with sharp interpretations which at moments bring new light on the works, to keep the attention tight (…) The absolute climax here is Britten's Nocturnal." Paul Jansen, Klassieke Zaken

“...Santiago Lascurain interprets the diversity of these different compositions tremendously concisely, clear, focused, with fine nuances, with rich colors and in a very atmospheric fashion...” Eckhart Weber, www.concerti.de

Released on November by QBK Records, '20th Century Guitar Recital' is a collection of some of the most siginificant works for guitar composed during the 20th century: 'Homenaje' by Manuel de Falla, considered the first work for guitar composed under 20th century aesthetics; Manuel M. Ponce's 'Theme Varie et Finale', one of the first pieces he wrote for guitar, and to me, the most beautiful work he wrote for the instrument; Frank Martin's sublime 'Quatre Pieces Breves'; 'Nocturnal', Benjamin Britten's masterpiece inspired on John Dowland's song 'Come Heavy Sleep'; and Alberto Ginastera's extravagant Sonata, where he synthesizes masterfully Argentinean folk and the modern academic musical trends of his time.
